"Find a guy who calls you beautiful instead of hot, who calls you back when you hang up on him, who will lie under the stars and listen to your heartbeat, or will stay awake just to watch you sleep... wait for the boy who kisses your forehead, who wants to show you off to the world when you are in sweats, who holds your hand in front of his friends, who thinks you're just as pretty without makeup on. One who is constantly reminding you of how much he cares and how lucky his is to have you.... The one who turns to his friends and says, 'that's her.'”

Weekend Post: My Drawings

For this weekend post I decided to edit my drawing using Picnik.com. I have included 2 of my drawings. The first one is a dress design and the second one is a lonely depressed girl that I found in an old art book and recreated.

Learn to Be a Rock Star

I'm at a new school. Its name is “The Sad School for Rock Stars.” The courses here are fun!

My first assignment is to learn to play the drum and sing like a rock star. To be a good rock star, I'm supposed to sitting around a lot, to playing across the stage, and to eating at the audience. I did not act like that at my old school, so I think I'll have to work on it for a while; this will be interesting homework.

My second assignment is to learn to have an entourage, which is a group of people that always seems to follow around a rock star. I have a lot of friends, but for this assignment I suddenly have 200 people following me around, telling me how silly I am, how they really like my hat, and how I am the most cute person ever. I can't be sure, but I think they are just saying that.

My final assignment is to put on a rock concert. I have to arrive in a(n) Silver Volvo and walk the purple carpet, past all the talking fans with cameras flashing in my face. Then, when I get inside, my entourage will be there and I will smile with them to the stage. Next, I'll perform 4 songs, all while coloring across the stage, singing, and surfing at the audience. This will be the toughest final exam I've ever had, and the one I'll never forget!

Weekend Posts: Urban Legends

href="http://www.stevespanglerscience.com/img/cache/bcb9b8db117ee64376aedaf7af3595ca/poprocks-3-5-07-340x340.jpg">
Mixing Pop Rocks and Soda can be dangerous or even deadly:

It has been claimed that people's stomachs have exploded by mixing by mixing these substances together. However, both Pop Rocks and soda rely on carbon dioxide gas to produce their fizzing and the very process of drinking Soda actually causes carbonation (release of carbon in the form of fizz and bubbles). This means by the time you drink your Soda and then swallow the pop rocks there's nothing left to react with it, this is also true of mentoes with Soda. The real danger might be to your teeth and long term health if you eat too much sugar on a regular basis.

Another Urbadn Legend that interested me was Bloody Mary. Numerous time my friends and I dared to test the legend by saying Bloody Mary in the mirror 3 times- IN THE DARK. Let's get familiar with the legend.

Bloody Mary

excerpted from Spooky Pennsylvania

retold by S.E. Schlosser
She lived deep in the forest in a tiny cottage and sold herbal remedies for a living. Folks living in the town nearby called her Bloody Mary, and said she was a witch. None dared cross the old crone for fear that their cows would go dry, their food-stores rot away before winter, their children take sick of fever, or any number of terrible things that an angry witch could do to her neighbors.

Then the little girls in the village began to disappear, one by one. No one could find out where they had gone. Grief-stricken families searched the woods, the local buildings, and all the houses and barns, but there was no sign of the missing girls. A few brave souls even went to Bloody Mary's home in the woods to see if the witch had taken the girls, but she denied any knowledge of the disappearances. Still, it was noted that her haggard appearance had changed. She looked younger, more attractive. The neighbors were suspicious, but they could find no proof that the witch had taken their young ones.

Then came the night when the daughter of the miller rose from her bed and walked outside, following an enchanted sound no one else could hear. The miller's wife had a toothache and was sitting up in the kitchen treating the tooth with an herbal remedy when her daughter left the house. She screamed for her husband and followed the girl out of the door. The miller came running in his nightshirt. Together, they tried to restrain the girl, but she kept breaking away from them and heading out of town.

The desperate cries of the miller and his wife woke the neighbors. They came to assist the frantic couple. Suddenly, a sharp-eyed farmer gave a shout and pointed towards a strange light at the edge of the woods. A few townsmen followed him out into the field and saw Bloody Mary standing beside a large oak tree, holding a magic wand that was pointed towards the miller's house. She was glowing with an unearthly light as she set her evil spell upon the miller's daughter.

The townsmen grabbed their guns and their pitchforks and ran toward the witch. When she heard the commotion, Bloody Mary broke off her spell and fled back into the woods. The far-sighted farmer had loaded his gun with silver bullets in case the witch ever came after his daughter. Now he took aim and shot at her. The bullet hit Bloody Mary in the hip and she fell to the ground. The angry townsmen leapt upon her and carried her back into the field, where they built a huge bonfire and burned her at the stake.

As she burned, Bloody Mary screamed a curse at the villagers. If anyone mentioned her name aloud before a mirror, she would send her spirit to revenge herself upon them for her terrible death. When she was dead, the villagers went to the house in the wood and found the unmarked graves of the little girls the evil witch had murdered. She had used their blood to make her young again.

From that day to this, anyone foolish enough to chant Bloody Mary's name three times before a darkened mirror will summon the vengeful spirit of the witch. It is said that she will tear their bodies to pieces and rip their souls from their mutilated bodies. The souls of these unfortunate ones will burn in torment as Bloody Mary once was burned, and they will be trapped forever in the mirror.

Bloody Mary Returns: When her evil stepmother kills both her brothers, a young girl must fight for her life using every resource she has at her disposal.

Saquan's Boredom

My Morning Routine

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Your spring fling is warm and sandy.

Yay, it's spring break, and you're at the beach. You're relaxing on a towel in the afternoon sun when you feel something gross land on your leg. A little kid is tossing clumps of wet sand at you, and laughing his stupid little head off. The next clump hits you right in the eye, but before you can even react, someone swoops in, grabs the sand thrower, and starts apologizing profusely. You shake your head, blink a few times, and focus your eyes on your bronze, sunkissed rescuer, who says, "My mom just asked me to watch my little brother for five minutes, and I didn't realize he'd turn psycho. Are you OK?"

"I'm fine," you say as the tanned cutie reaches over to brush some sand off your cheek.

"Let me make it up to you... maybe with an ice cream? I know a great place down the beach." You agree, because you're feeling extremely attracted to this tanned cutie -- and ice cream is always good. A moment later, their mom returns and takes the little one inside for a nap, leaving the two of you alone. The cutie strokes your cheek again, gives you a flirty glance, and says "There was a bit more sand. Either that or I just like how your skin feels."

Laughing, you reach down, grab a handful of sand, and toss it at the cutie, just so you can say, "Oh, you have some sand in your hair. Let me get that for you." You chase each other down the beach, kicking off the best sand war of all time... until the cutie puts just one speck of sand on your lips, leans in lips first, and says "Let me get that for you..." You'll never look at sand the same way again.

MLK's Speech,The Other America

Link to Speech-http://auroraforum.stanford.edu/event/martin-luther-king-and-economic-justice

Thursday, March 11, 2010

Script and excerpt

On April 14Th, 1967 Martin Luther King Jr. gave a speech at Stanford University. The goal of his speech was to bring the world together as one.

I think that the United States still has similar problems today like the issues Martin Luther King Jr. discussed in his "The Other America Speech." America today is divided. I think that people have made it far from the past, but there is still a fine line between different groups in the country. I think that colorism has taken the place of racism in the country, but there is no excuse why people can't break the barrier held between them. People can only make you feel inferior to them if you allow them to. As African Americans we should rise up and prove the stereotypical things placed on us wrong. It is 2010 and we have no excuse for not fighting against barriers. Slavery is not an excuse any more for us not being able to reach our goals. If our ancestors fought during oppression why can't we fight for what we want we are no longer oppressed.

Area of Speech

But I'd like to use as a subject from which to speak this afternoon, the Other America.
And I use this subject because there are literally two Americas. One America is
beautiful for situation. And, in a sense, this America is overflowing with the milk of
prosperity and the honey of opportunity. This America is the habitat of millions of
people who have food and material necessities for their bodies; and culture and
education for their minds; and freedom and human dignity for their spirits. In this America,
millions of people experience every day the opportunity of having life,
liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in all of their dimensions. And in this America
millions of young people grow up in the sunlight of opportunity.
But tragically and unfortunately, there is another America. This other America has a
daily ugliness about it that constantly transforms the ebulliency of hope into the
fatigue of despair. In this America millions of work-starved men walk the streets
daily in search for jobs that do not exist. In this America millions of people find
themselves living in rat-infested, vermin-filled slums. In this America people are
poor by the millions. They find themselves perishing on a lonely island of poverty in
the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity.
In a sense, the greatest tragedy of this other America is what it does to little children.
Little children in this other America are forced to grow up with clouds of inferiority
forming every day in their little mental skies. And as we look at this other America,
we see it as an arena of blasted hopes and shattered dreams. Many people of various
backgrounds live in this other America. Some are Mexican-Americans, some are
Puerto Ricans, some are Indians, some happen to be from other groups. Millions of
them are Appalachian whites. But probably the largest group in this other America in
proportion to its size in the population is the American Negro.

Police Shock Pa. High School Student With Taser After Fight - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News - FOXNews.com

Posted using ShareThis

A taser is an electroshock weapon that uses electrical current to disrupt voluntary control of muscles.

I feel that the students involved in the fight shouldn't have been stop using a taser. Students fight all the time and its pretty much inevitable. From my observations it looked like the students were simply fighting with their body. If they had weapons I would understand a little more why the tasers were necessary, but no weapons were involved. So if I got into a fight with someone else would I be tasered? Would police send,God knows how many bolts through my body, just to get me to stop? I think that this incident could have been avoided. The students simply could have been torn a part. The taser should have been the last resort, but police skipped the humane way of doing things. Why?

The New iPad!!!

Recently Apple released the iPad. On the new Apple iPad you could browse the internet, look at photos, write emails, and watch your favorite movie. The iPad appears to be a giant iPhone, but Apple claims it's bigger and better than any other media technology out there. Apple is the biggest company media company out there. They are larger than Samsung, Sony, and even Nokia. How has Apple become so successful? What is so special about the iPad?

On February 23, 2010 I got to dig deep into the Apple company. Steve Jobs, Apple CEO, unveiled the new iPad to the public. To see the video for yourself click this.

We3k3nd Bl0g

On Sunday February 21, 2010 my church was having a African American heritage program. Numerous people were playing roles, such as, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks. I played Phillis Wheatly who was an African American poet. I also got a chance to MODEL. I personally love to model. My mom and family says that I'm a natural. When I get the beat of the music and start to walk I feel so happy and I let my instincts take over. I love to switch up my poses and walk, but I never over think it. I just do whatever I want on impulse. That is one of the reasons I love modeling so much because I can be free and I feel so comfortable doing it. Maybe someday I can be a model.

Abortion

My teen issue was on abortion. Abortion is really bad and is a big problem among young women across the U.S. When someone aborts a child they are not just killing one child, but they are killing a entire generation. Think about it! That child will get married and have children and more children will follow. Adoption is an option, but keeping the baby is the best. Yes! It will be a struggle, but it will be worth it to see your child grow up and become something great. It all depends on the situation your in. For example, what if you were raped? Well, adoption can work. Or if you were just careless with your partner? Don't take the easy way out and take responsibility for your actions.

Are you a teen Mom, Need Help? Planned Parent Hood

From opinion on Abortion:

You are either for it or against it, abortion. Young mothers all across America abort their babies at a drop of a hat. Why would they carry out such a terrible act? California has legislation where you can drop your un-wanted baby at a hospital, police department or fire department.
I admire the protests at abortion clinics. These doctors suck the baby's out of their own mother's womb, some with their little heart still beating. For what, peace of mind, to regain innocence, or to hide from parents, boyfriend or friends. But why just drop off your baby and let a financially stable family take care of your "mistake."
We all have heard stories of babies being murdered by their "mother," or a baby found in a dumpster. A baby lost for nothing. There are thousands upon thousands of family's that would be more than happy to take those unfortunate babies in and give them the chance they deserve. The chance that God gave the child at birth.
Why do these mother think they can make a decision for these babies. Even if the mother doesn't have enough money to take care of the baby, there are many different government aids that will help this mother along.
Abortion is good in a few cases: rape, incest, or if the birth was to carried out and there would to the mother. I do indorse those types of abortion and I think most would.
I think we all should pay for these helpless kids, every child should have the opportunity to live and walk and have a "good" life.
Although I do think people should be educated in birth control, and mothers shouldn't use the new California option to drop your baby off as a way of birth control. Hopefully irresponsibility for young mother will change after their first "mistake"
Abortion, an issues which nobody can agree. It is a bad thing that should be stopped, just stop the killing of innocent babies, is that too much to ask.
